The Bottom Line: What is a Q5? A Q5 is a luxury compact SUV from Audi. Audi AG, commonly referred to as Audi, is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. The 2022 Audi Q5 is a nice compact luxury SUV. Equipped with standard AWD all wheel drive and available with a turbocharged 4 cylinder gas engine, or a more powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain, the Q5 is fun to drive and appeals to a variety of consumers.

To complete the handling upgrades, the package also includes Audi’s adaptive damping system, and Audi drive mode select. Then they add in S Line sport bucket seats, a sport steering wheel with a perforated leather covering, and additional bright metal sport trim.

This week Audi sent me a 2022 Audi Q5 Sportback S Line 45 TFSI Quattro SUV to test drive and review. The base window sticker price for this S Line model is $48,400. The options on the test SUV are: the metallic paint for $595, the prestige package for $8,700, the black optic sport package for $2,500, the Audi guard protection kit for $315, the cargo cover for $275, and the Audi headlight beam rings for $275.

The MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,095 destination charge, minus the power adjustable steering column $250 credit, came to: $61,905. After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the total purchase price came to: $69,643. At nearly $70 Grand this Audi Q5 S Line Quattro SUV falls below the $75,000 luxury level SUV price class, and as they say, you do get what you pay for.

To start with, this Audi Q5 Sportback SUV has a 2.0L liter Turbo inline 4 cylinder engine that puts out 261 HP horsepower and 273 foot-pounds of torque. The motor is bolted to a 7 speed S-Tronic automatic transmission coupled to a Quattro AWD all wheel drive traction control system. The fuel economy numbers for this driveline are 23 MPG city, 28 MPG highway, and 25 MPG in combined driving. For a compact luxury and performance SUV with AWD these are great mileage numbers, especially with today’s gas prices.

And what is an Audi Q5 45 TFSI? The Audi Q5 45 TFSI adds the technology and power to make it one of the top models in the Audi Q5 lineup. And to make this SUV stand out even further against the competition, Audi developed the Prestige Package, which elevates the level of luxury to the top of the luxury compact class.

The 2022 Audi Q5 is a very competent everyday companion, thanks to some good engine options, confident handling, and a comfortable interior. And to look extra cool this Q5 has the Black Optic Sport Package that adds a set of 21″ double spoke module design alloy wheels, aluminum inlay black trim, black exterior elements, and an S Line sport tuned suspension system.
